Students are expected to adhere to the following dress code. Exceptions are made for the first classes, until students have had time to acquire dancewear. A secondhand sale and swap is held at the beginning of the first term of classes.
All Ballet Students
No jewelry may be worn in class. Long hair must be in a bun, and short or mid -length hair must be kept neatly back, away from the face.
Ballet Beginner, Level 1 and 2
- Girls: Pale blue, tank style leotard, pink tights, pink ballet slippers. Optional: Sheer wrap skirt, or dance sweater.
- Boys: Opaque black footless tights or unitard, black ballet slippers, white socks, white t-shirt.
Ballet Level 3 and up
- Girls: Black leotard, pink tights, pink ballet slippers.
Optional: Sheer wrap skirt, dance sweater or legwarmers, black ACDA t-shirt. - Boys: Same as above, with dance belt for older students.
Creative Movement, Pre-Ballet, Jazz, Modern, Hip Hop
No dangling jewelry may be worn in class. Long hair must be tied back in bun, ponytail or braid, mid-length and short hair must be kept neatly back, away from face. Dancewear, such as jazz pants or spandex shorts, snug t-shirt, leotard or sports top are all suitable. Bare feet, jazz shoes, or ballet slippers.
Note: Socks worn alone are often too slippery on smooth floors.
Tap
Same as above and tap shoes of any style.
Step Dance
Light, comfortable clothing may be worn. Pant legs do not hang past the top of the shoes. Hard-soled shoes or tap shoes.
